Day 5 of 100 Days

Trivet1

Today it is Trivets - for Irons. Which are usually Iron Trivets too. These two are beautiful, even though one is broken and mended. They come from a time when we did not easily throw things away.

And they would have been essential for the spirit irons - you couldn't stand them on end, or put them on the stove.

Trivet2

Tomorrow the Flat Irons start.

You do find the most interesting things in the course of your work. I'm sure Mum had one of those trivets once, but goodness knows where it is now. I remember it being really heavy and bueatifully made.
PS Thanks for your comments on my blog regarding the cushion. They meant a lot. hugs

The old irons have been fascinating but those trivets are really beautiful - I remember listening to an expert on the Durham quilting style in the UK who told us the women would draw round flat irons to get the shape of the quilting designs back in the 19th century
